Scopes & Mounts

The scope and mounts are a very important part of the whole rifle. Caution is advised when creating opinions about these two items. The reason is they are both “big dollar” after market items, volume wise. Un-true glittery ads are often used to get your money. For the unknowing buyer, many are quite convincing. It is not our job to badmouth anyone but rather to share with you what we use.
Mounts
The mounting system is the easiest to tell you about. We use Talley rings and bases on our rifles because we find them to be the best that we have ever used. They are precision machined on CNC equipment. Each set is perfectly round and fits the scope and the bases perfectly. Any mounting problems we may have experienced went away when we started using Talley rings and bases.
Scopes
The best scope for the money is the Leupold, no one else even comes close. In our opinion, the best scope on the market is the Swarovski. Between these two companies, 96% of our rifles come with one or the other. Leupold and Swarovski both have some products that fit certain applications best. Between the two, you are covered. Both companies have continued to add to their line of scopes until they now have scopes available for all needs and applications. Another great scope is the Kahles, as well as Schmidt & Bender. There are a lot of scopes that are fairly new and we haven’t seen enough of them to form a good opinion. A large majority of our clients go on one or more expensive hunts every year and they want equipment that works! The gimmicky equipment never stays popular long enough to be evaluated, so we don’t use it. We can’t count the times that we’ve seen scopes and mounts be the culprit of accuracy problems with a rifle. Something we can have added to a Leupold scope is a trajectory dot reticle. After we do the ballistics work up, we can furnish the information to the custom reticle company. They install dots in the reticle subtended for the distances you wish to shoot. EXAMPLE: You range a sheep at 500 yards with your range finder. You put the 500 yard dot dead center of his shoulder and shoot. Of course you would have to allow for cross-wind if it were a factor. A bus load of our customers are deadly accurate with this set up. It’s the easiest way to be a long range shooter. Included in this before anything else is a “Super Accurate” rifle. Trust someone who knows, or do your own research before you buy a scope.
